| This photo, taken around 1887, shows the entrance to the Berks County
Prison that stood at the head of Penn Street for 90 years. On the left
we can see most of South Reservoir, which remained uncovered until 1910.
Notice that there were separate, high iron fences around the prison
grounds, the reservoir grounds, and the reservoirs themselves.
