3- The log structure pictured in a previous News-Bits
dispatch was identified by Jill Giles who noted the
following:
"I've located the log home in yesterday's web notes. It's
still a log home, just like the old photo, and quite
beautifully preserved. It's located on Laird Ave. in the
neighborhood to the west of the former borough of West Lawn, in
Springmont. I couldn't find the house number, but it is
probably 56 or 58. It's three or four homes in from the
corner of Laird and Belmont Avenues."
The photo below was taken by Jill.

5- Based on information provided in a book dealing with
old-time organs built by Penn'a German organ-builders, it
was thought the 1872 Thos. Dieffenbach organ in Salem
Reformed Church at Bethel Village (a.k.a. Millersburg)
was no longer being played.

A week ago, Sime Bertolet, Janis Longlott, and GMMIX were
scouting Western Berks in the area along Route 501. As we
drove by Salem Reformed Church, we saw cars parked around
the building so decided to pay a visit with the idea of
taking some photos, esp. of the organ.
To our surprise, a Mr. Eddris informed us that organist
Debbie Moyer does play the organ sometimes, in spite of
one key that tends to stick.
Mrs. Moyer was willing to come to church to give us an
organ demonstration, which she did on short notice.

The url below will show you the organ "in action" and permit the
hearing of its fine sound.
