3-GALA Autograph Party THIS Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. - ELEVEN authors




ELEVEN local authors will appear at the HENDEL HOUSE on
Centre Ave., right across the street from Centre Park.
Come see the progress being made on the Hendel House
restoration, which includes a 4-color paint scheme.

The ELEVEN local compilers-authors who will be on hand to
show and sign their works are as follows:

4-Saturday morning will be the first showing of a delightful and unusual "local picture history"




Last Winter and into the Spring, Charles J. Adams, III
undertook the preparation of this unusual publication
as his nostalgia-rich "literary gift" to the Historical
Society of Berks County and local-history buffs everywhere.

This soft-bound book of 94 pages is printed on high-quality
encyclopedia paper.

In the rear section, GMMIX further commented on the contents
of most pages.

Charles J. Adams, III, will appear and entertain hauntingly
at HENDEL HOUSE, Centre Avenue and Douglass, opposite
Centre Park.

On the menu: Seasonal refreshments and ghost tales supreme

Cost: $15 for adults........$10 for those ages 1 to 12

6- HIGH family cemetery re-dedication--this Sat., Oct. 20th -- 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This private cemetery stands on the hill behind the large
High home at Poplar Neck that was demolished about two
years ago. Gen. High--celebrated militia commander, judge,
attorney, legislator, etc.--lies buried in this grave-yard.
Virtually abandoned for MANY years and in a derelict
condtion, the good people of the Berks County Ass'n for
Graveyard Preservation undertook the much-needed restoration.

Location: Along POPLAR NECK ROAD

DIRECTIONS: Across the road (Route 724) from the driveway
leading into the the Animal Rescue League's headquarters---
near the intersection of 724 and 1-176---Poplar Neck Road
leads down the hill towards the Met-Ed electric plant.
Drive down that road and look for parked cars!

7- BOOK BONANZA collection of books - SAT., Oct. 27 - Rdg. Regional Airport

County-wide used book collection for Book Bonanza 2008 will
be held Saturday, October 27th, outside the Reading Regional
Airport, from 9 am to noon.

Adult and children's hardback or paperback books in good
condition are needed. The Book Bonanza provides funds for
scholarships for women and the Berks Libraries' Summer
Reading Program for Kids.

8- Historical Society's web-site has 50,732 newly added CHURCH RECORDS

Doug Reinert, the Historical Society's "computer person,"
just sent a note informing us that he has added 50,732 new
church records to the online church-record database.
This brings the total, on line, to 1,091,092.

9- Schuyler Brossman LIVE interviews dealing with genealogy

Schuyler, who lived in Rehrersburg and was a member of our
Historical Society for many years, was deeply involved in
genealogy. Our library has copies of many of the records he
collected and indexed.

Following is an email received about a week ago. Here it is
as sent:

Hello, I am Drew Techner, a geneaologist in Philadelphia and
descendant of the Treon, Reith, Beisel, Kiehl, etc. families.

On April 12, 1995, I made a video interview of local Berks
County historian Schuyler Brossman. He was author of the
“Our Keystone Families” newspaper column. He passed in 1998.
