Death of DOMINIC MANZELLA, Laureldale mayor 59 years!
3- It was with great sadness that we noted the death on
June 21st of Dominic Manzella at age 89. He was one of
those reliable people who was always available when one
needed information on some aspect of Laureldale or Muhlenberg
Twp. history. If he didn't know an answer, he knew someone
who did. HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED.

LANDMARK at Limekiln / Oley Line for sale for $399,000
4- The 1835 Snyderville (Oley Line) hotel building, which also
was the village's general store and post office until the late
1890's, sits on the south side of the Oley Turnpike and fronts
at 800 Limekiln Rd. The property is in Exeter Township.

The exterior photo doesn't do justice to the building or its
situation. There's a nice yard on the south side and out
back. On the .65-acre lot is a new 2-car garage and a stone
smokehouse. The house has been a residence for a half century.

Incidentally, a century ago there was a switchboard behind the
bar for the Yellow House Rural Telephone Company.
Limekiln is a really special place. We'd like to see some-
one with an appreciation for history and tradition acquire
this property, which has a new heater, new wiring, new roof,
and duct-work for central air.

Are YOU a Brown?
12- Calling all Browns.....

SPECIAL NOTICE in regard to your News-Bits editor
13- As of this week, yours truly has begun--in earnest--
work on "The Passing Scene--Volume 15," with a completion
target-date of October 1st. To make this possible,
workdays usually range from 10 to 15 hours--or more.
Accordingly, there will be fewer News-Bit releases and
few answered emails. There will be precious little TV
news-viewing, newspaper reading, and telephone calls. All
in all, life becomes--for the duration--something akin to
"having taken the veil."
Complicating matters is the fact that I have been revisited
by an erstwhile nemesis, carpel tunnel syndrome, this time
to the right hand. Surgery is scheduled for July 31st.
Photo restoration for Volume 15 began last December, so that
by this time there are about 145 photos (out of approx. 300
needed) already prepared....but not completely captioned.
Incidentally, it is not unusual to spend two to three hours
restoring an old photo, especially one with extensive surface-
scratching or one that has faded unevenly.
Looking at the bright side, beginning another book has one
minor advantage: I always know exactly what I'll be doing the
rest of the summer.....
