Questions? 610 – 796 – 1799 ============== ============= ========== 5- The Society’s Internet store has some new items and NEVER closes. www.berkshistory.org/giftshop ============== =============== ========== 6- For many years, Schwarzwald U.C.C. has hosted a TURKEY DINNER & BAZAAR at its 1870 church at Jacksonwald….at 75 Church Lane. The date for this event is Saturday, Dec. 2…. from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Info: 610 – 779 – 0850 We were somewhat surprised to discover on our recent THREE CENTURIES TOUR-site at Allegheny U.C.C. that the church interior there at Alleghenyville is virtually IDENTICAL to Schwarzwald’s….same pews, gallery arrangement, woodwork, iron gallery support-posts, etc. Were it not for the picture-windows at Alleghenyville, you’d have a hard time determining in which of the two sanctuaries you are sitting. ================ ========== ============== 7- What’s It Worth? It is c.1843, and the logbook itself is ledger style, measuring about 7” wide, 16”tall and 2” thick. For whatever reason, the first 400 pages are blank. A great number of Eastern Berks names are listed as customers. ================== =============== ========== 9 – One of our readers emailed with the news that Reading’s long-time radio station WRAW is defunct. It’s spot on the dial is now the home of Christian Radio station WKAP. =============== ============== ============= 10- The National Historic Landmark Hottenstein Home along the Allentown Pike (Route 222), between Kutztown and Maxatawny, is threatened by a massive mall. There have been hearings in regard to this matter. A large number of people came to this hearing to ventilate their feelings. More about this matter will follow. ============== ============== ============= 11- The Reading Choral Society will be performing American Vistas with music by American composers Randall Thompson, Nathaniel Dett, local composer David Himes and RCS Young Composers Project winner Matthew Trojanowski.
