A surgical procedure 12 days ago is slowly returning things to an acceptable level. ================================================ 2- Death of Dr. Donald Shelley, a longtime member of our Society and a recognized authority on illuminated script and art.
================================================= 3- Festival of Berks Choral Compositions this coming Sunday, April 30th at 3...........at Immanuel U.C.C., Waverly & Brobst Sts., Shillington.

================================================= 5- In a previous News-Bits release, mention was made of a Rail Ramble to the valley above Jim Thrope. Two dozen of you responded immediately, expressing a strong interest in being a part of the event. As soon as a definite date can be ascertained, you will be notified through News-Bits. ================================================ 6- Ben Franklin to visit Kempton Mon., Apr. 24 at 7:30 Benjamin Franklin, statesmen, inventor, printer, and philanthropist, will make a rare appearance in Kempton. Franklin, as portrayed by Bill Robling of Philadelphia, an actor for nineteen years and portrayer of Franklin for four years, states, "Being Ben Franklin in his own words, in his own space, is probably as rewarding as anything." Bill, as Ben Franklin, will meet with Albany Township Historical Society members and friends this coming Monday, at 7:30pm at Albany Elementary School in Kempton. Bill will share insights into the life of one of America's founding fathers. He will focus on Ben’s life as a statesman and his impact on America and the world 300 years his birth. The public is invited free of charge. A special invitation is cordially extended to all area school students and News-Bits readers. Franklin's appearance furthers the mission of the Albany Township Historical Society to educate the public of our rich cultural heritage. ================================================ 8- Society's Library and Archives Department offers a family history program of general interest.
================================================ 9- Historic SAMPLERS of Berks County exhibit opens next Sat., April 29th, at 9 a.m. ....to the general public. This exhibition will be a major offering of great significance. It is sponsored in part by the County Commissioners of Berks County, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, and the WIDGEON FOUNDATION. Sampler: "the cloth on which womenfolk sew neatly and in brightly-colored threads, letters, all kinds of figures, patterns and so forth in many different styles." Guest Curator for the SAMPLER EXHIBIT is Kathryn Lesieur, a descendant of Jacob Gery and Valentine Griesemer, early settlers of Berks. A long-time collector of Penn'a samplers, Kathryn has spent the past five years researching Berks samplers, after obtaining her first locally made piece. You who have an interest in this subject should know that there are special programs and seminars planned for Friday, May 19 Saturday, June 24 Thursday, Sept. 14 Friday, Sept. 15 Saturday, Sept. 16 November 9 to 11 at Hendel Mansion ================================================ ============== GMMIX ================= END == |
