Riverview, in Muhlenberg Twp., received its name from the Riverview Driving Club located along River Road near Kelly's or Leize's Lock. Horses "for driving" were kept in that frame building on the right. The large clubhouse, which during the 1930's was a popular night club, survives as an apartment house complex. All the other buildings seen in the view are gone. A new road now exists, to the right of the stable, with modern homes on both sides---a short distance "up the hill." ![]() = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = 4- Tonight, Wed., June 18th at 7:30, at Grace Lutheran Church, 30 Liberty St., Shillington, LYRA from St. Petersburg, will present folks songs from Russia. "They are buried in Jaffa Cemetery, Mocksville, Davie Co NC. Their original stones had been chipped away by gawkers, so the cemetery encased them in a brick setting. "As you know, Squire and George Boone left PA and relocated in Rowan Co NC in 1750's. "One of my KERST ancestors, Mary KERST, married a Valentine HUFF who formerly was in Oley and Maidencreek in early 1760's. Valentine took his family to Rowan Co and in 6/12/1776 he purchased 320 acres on a tract that had been formerly granted to George Boone. My cousin and I had fun tracing the land and finding his former tract! "Squire and George had each obtained land grants of 640 acres, adjacent to each other, from the NC Proprietory, Lord Granville, near the Forks of the Yadkin on Bear Creek, which is located north of Mocksville NC, now in Davie Co. George BOONE had sold half of his tract to Joseph Hughes in 1/24/1772, who in turn sold it to Valentine HUFF in 6/12/1774. "Here is a picture of a historic marker on the tract of land originally granted to Squire Boone, which happened to be adjacent to George BOONE's tract and thus next to Valentine HUFF's land." ![]() Diana in AL, a KERST descendent! = = = = = = gmmix = = = = = end = = = = = = = = = = = = = |
