3- We sincerely regret the sudden passing of Hilda Larese of
McKnight St., who died at age 87 on May 29th. For some 15
years, Hilda was in the library of the Society, once a week, to
work on old written records. As she was educated in Germany
during the period handwritten German script was still being
taught in the schools (prior to 1933), she was our one-and-only
resident German-script translator. Many can read printed
German script. FEW can plough through old hand-written
manuscripts.

She is survived by son Hans of Mertztown and three daughters:
Elsa Rothenberger and Johanna Hartman of Reading, and
Gretel Ortiz of Fleetwood. A sister, Emme Maurer, lives in
Neuenberg, Germany.

4- Earl D. Brown of South Temple and latterly of the Lutheran
Home at Topton died May 27th at age 88. He was best known
as a local musician. He played trumpet for many years with
the Three J's Band---and also with the Ringgold Band and
the Centerport Band. He is survived by wife Jane Heintz-
Brown, son Dennis of Exeter Twp., and daughter Melanie Kohout
of Temple. Another daughter, Linda Weissman, lives in
Jenkintown.

5- Anna May High, age 70, died May 26th, in Chester County.
For 20 years she was an instructor, in nursing, at Reading
Hospital School of Nursing---and for 13 years taught nursing
at Reading Area Community College. Most recently, she
continued to teach at Brandywine School of Nursing---until 1995.
She was born in Womelsdorf, graduated from Shillington High,
earned a BS at Albright, and received a master's in nursing from
U. of P. Locally, a sister survives her: Pauline Doerrman of
Reading.
