ONE News-Bit of Reading-Berks historical interest.... ================== =============== ========== The Society's annual fund-raising event, conducted to help support special exhibits, is scheduled for SATURDAY, June 7th, from 4 to around 8. Besides musical entertainment by vocal stylists Maria Damore and Mike Kurowki, those attending will be given a full tour of the landmark 1733 George Boone residential complex and its surrounding plantation, today called "Boonecroft." ![]() ![]() We are pleased to announce an exciting new development in regard to the event being held at "Boonecroft." Arrangements have been made to provide a series of "wagon rides" around Severin Fayerman's estate at Limekiln (Oley Line), each of which will run approx. 20 to 30 minutes and begin around 4. These are part of the package of events which include the aforementioned musical entertainment by members of Reading Civic Opera Society. The wagon tour will include a glimpse of Oley Valley R.R. right- of-way (1901-1932), the George Boone 1720 log-cabin site with its surviving fireplace, a uniquely designed barn from 1805, and the Schneider grist mill erected in the 1700's and operated until the early 1900's, latterly by Sam Sensenig. The last of the family to run the mill was Wm. H. Snyder. Because of its secluded location, few "outsiders" have ever seen the Schneider grist mill, seen below. ![]() This coming FRIDAY, MAY 30th, is the DEADLINE for reservations for the "Boonecroft" event. For more information, call the Society at 610 375 - 4375. ![]() ![]() ============ gmmix ============ end ================ |
