6- On Saturday, October 5th, there will be a tour of the Mennonite-
Amish heritage sites within Berks County. This will be a day well
spent. Here is the data provided to me......

We invite you to join the Berks County Amish-Mennonite Heritage
Tour of the beautiful Berks County countryside on October 5, 2002,
to see the same land (although quite changed at places) that our
ancestors saw in the 1700s when they settled there. Historic sites
will be pointed out from our chartered bus with stops made at some
homesteads and cemeteries. A pig-roast noon picnic takes place at
the restored Stoltzfus House near Reading (along the Tulpehocken,
near Kissinger’s Church), and a family-style dinner early evening
will conclude the tour.

The all-day tour will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Conestoga Mennonite
Church, Morgantown, Pa., where Amish-Mennonites moved in 1760
from northern Berks County. Soon there were Hertzlers, Hooleys,
Kurtzes, Lapps, Masts, and Smuckers living in the Morgantown area.

The bus will leave from the Conestoga Mennonite Church just west
of Morgantown along Route 23.

Driving north through Reading, we will see places where the
Gerber, Hertzler, Koenig, Kurtz, Lapp, Schwartzentruber, Stoltzfus,
and Zug families lived; and further north in the Maiden Creek
settlement where more Koenigs and the Rickenbachs settled.

Families in the Northkill settlement (west of Hamburg) included
Beiler, Detwiler, Glick, Gnage, Hertzler, Hochstetler, Hooley,
Kauffman, Lantz, Lehman, Mast, Miller, Stutzman, Yoder, and Zug.
The final settlement in Berks County was the Tulpehocken settlement
where the Hertzler and Kurtz families lived.

Register now by calling 610-286-0258 to take a step back into
the past to learn about the Amish-Mennonite roots in Berks County!
Send $40.00 per person to Masthof, 219 Mill Road, Morgantown, PA
19543-9516.

More information will be sent upon receipt of your check.
