Montgomery's 1909 2-volume history-on-line completed ========================================== Spend a day at CHARMING FORGE, at the mansion and in the village, on Saturday, June 8th--2:30 p.m. to 7:30. Cost: $65 per person. Owners Chip Henderson and his lovely wife will give an orientation and the history of the place at 3 p.m. Tours will be conducted between 4:30 and 6:30. This event is open to everyone interested in local history. Handicapped parking is available and most areas are accessible. A fine Boscov's buffet is included -- from 4:30 to 6:30. Mrs. & Mrs. Matt Barnhart's wonderfully restored home--opposite the mansion--will be open to tour. This large structure originally was the forge boarding house. Both this and the Charming Forge mansion were featured on HOME & GARDEN TV last fall. A number of the original old stone cabins in the village, dating back to the days of the 1749 forge operation, are undergoing restoration. The mansion was constructed in stages, between 1749 and 1784. The 1749 Tulpehocken Eisenhammer was renamed "Charming Forge" in 1762 by "Baron" Henry Stiegel, colonial ironmaster and producer of Stiegelware glass. Many aren't aware that the Union Canal ran through this estate. DEADLINE for reservations will be this coming WEDNESDAY, May 29th. If interested, give the Society a call at 610 - 375 - 4375....or email us at HistSoc@berkshistory.org ....or FAX 610 - 375 - 4376. ====================================== 2- We've just been informed that the Morton L. Montgomery Berks-history BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES are now completed and accessible online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/ Scroll down to the "Montgomery biographies" section. This info was taken from Montgomery's 1909 two-volume set of Berks history and biography. ==================== gmmix ===== end ===== |
