Schuylkill Canal - 1825

In 1825, when the section of the Schuylkill Canal in Muhlenberg Township was first constructed, the canal bed
followed the course now taken by River Road. This stretch of canal was abandoned in 1833 due to leakage caused
by underlying limestone. Several structures from the original 1825 canal survive to this day.
