Covered Bridges

 Berks County is fortunate to have five covered bridges that are still standing. Four of them The Dreibelbis Bridge, The Kutz's Mill Bridge, The Pleasantville Bridge and Griesemer's Bridge are still open to traffic. Wertz's Bridge (the Red Bridge) is closed to vehicle traffic. In the past there where many more covered bridges in Berks County. The pictures below represent just a small sample.

Birdsboro Toll Bridge The Old Toll Bridge in Birdsboro spanned the Schuylkill River.
Bushong's Bridge Bushong's Bridge built in 1866, connected Berkshire Heights to the Glenside section of Reading.
Douglassville Bridge The Douglassville Bridge spanned the Schuylkill River.. The bridge was built in 1852.
Poplar Neck The Poplar Neck bridge spanned the Schuylkill River.
Schlegel's Bridge Schlegel's Bridge built in 1869 spanned the Maiden Creek at Berkley.
Van Reed's Bridge Van Reed's Bridge, built in 1837 spanned the Tulpehocken Creek near the present day papermill.
Reber's Mill bridge Rebers's Mill Bridge, built in 1850.
Freystown Bridge The Freystown Bridge spanned the Swatara Creek.
